This volume gathers the materials from the XV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, held in the Vatican from 3 to 28 October 2018 on the theme "Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment." It was the culminating moment of a journey that began in January 2017 with the publication of the Preparatory Document.
The synodal process, articulated in several significant stages, featured a major innovation: the direct involvement of young people. They were not simply addressees, but true co-responsible participants in the discernment.
The Assembly combined plenary sessions with work in the Circuli Minores — small discussion groups. Particularly appreciated was the presence of some forty young auditors, whose contributions brought vitality and concreteness to the Synod.
The volume dedicated to the event gathers the materials from the preparation and proceedings of the Assembly, divided into four parts: the chronicle of the celebrations and General Congregations; the texts presenting the synodal topics, together with testimonies from young people; the reports of the Circuli Minores; and homilies, addresses, and official documents, including the Preparatory Document, the Instrumentum Laboris, the Final Document, the Letter to Young People, and the Apostolic Exhortation Christus Vivit. The appendix contains the calendar, the list of participants, and other contributions.
The Youth Synod was a "good harvest," above all because of the method it adopted: working together — young people and adults — in listening and discernment. This synodal style also inspired the subsequent Assembly on the theme: "For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, Mission."
